Many of our patients see a 50% improvement in their acne

within 4 weeks with our combined treatment programs.

MANY ARE CLEAR WITHIN 3 MONTHS!

At Southern CT Dermatology, we get it.

If your over-the-counter approach isn’t working for you or is making things even worse, it’s time to go to the pros. It’s even possible that you have another skin condition that only looks like acne. It’s important to know for sure what you’re dealing with so you can be treated properly.

Led by dermatologist Dr. Robin Evans, our team (nurse practitioners, nurses, and aesthetician) feels deep compassion for those struggling with acne prone skin and we want to get to the bottom of it. We devote ourselves to healing acne cases like yours by taking the time to thoroughly investigate all of the underlying causes of your particular brand of acne.

It’s complex terrain to navigate on your own, but we consider every possible contributing factor. Then we guide you through a customized treatment plan designed for you and you alone. This often means combining a variety of acne solutions. We set you up with a timetable of office visits so we can make adjustments to your plan as you make progress. You also get a skin regimen that you can implement on your own between visits—because who wants to go to the doctor all the time? We want you to get on with your life! Once your skin is clear, we can also help with acne scar reduction.

Assessing your lifestyle

We begin by exploring your relationship with food, sleep, stress, and other lifestyle factors that may be contributing to your acne. It’s important to create the conditions that enable your entire body to work properly.

This list may seem simple, but consider:

•   Eliminating dairy products—they naturally contain a lot of          hormones, which stimulate oil production

•   Eating a healthy whole foods diet

•   Reducing sugar intake

•   Getting enough sleep

•   Managing stress

•   Exercising

LET'S END THIS ACNE THING!

ACNE TREATMENT

Could my acne be caused by a food allergy or sensitivity?

When indicated, we run the KBMO FIT (Food Inflammation Test) to see if you have any issues with particular foods. We recommend dietary changes based on your results. Sometimes gluten can wreak havoc on your system, which was the case for one of our young patients. His acne recovery story is incredible!

The Power of Prescriptions

In many cases, a prescription acne medication is the best, most effective option and can include:

Topical creams: used to kill bacteria and reduce oil, may contain a retinoid for blackheads and whiteheads.

Antibiotics: kill bacteria and reduce inflammation, may be used topically and orally.

Birth control pills and other oral medications: used when hormones are thought to be involved.

Accutane (Isotretinoin): the strongest treatment and can be a miracle for many. Only used as a last resort.

Steroids/cortisone: diluted injections can immediately decrease or eliminate painful cystic acne.

Acne Treatment Facials

This signature, sterile facial is an essential part of our acne program. It deeply cleanses the skin and extracts the impurities and bacteria that cause acne. It also includes a mini HydraFacial and is followed by a light glycolic peel to assist with the removal of comedones and pimples. May be performed on the face, back, and chest.

Chemical Peels

We offer glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and a variety of other types of chemical peels from Glytone, SkinMedica, and more. Peels may be performed on the face, neck, chest, and back. Your goals and needs determine the number of treatments required.

Light Therapy

Photodynamic blue light treats acne on the face, chest, or back and may be used on both teens and adults. This quick, painless therapy can be used in place of, or in conjunction with, conventional acne therapy. It can often reduce the need for antibiotics, Accutane, or topical treatments making it a very safe choice. A series of sessions is needed.

ACNE SCAR REMOVAL

We don't want acne to leave its mark. We offer a variety of solutions to clear acne scars at our medical spa.

Microneedling

Microneedling creates tiny controlled wounds to the skin prompting it to produce new elastin and collagen. This heals and reduces the appearance of acne scarring. Microneedling causes pink to moderate-red appearance to the treated area, which requires minimal downtime. May be combined with chemical peels or laser treatments.

Microneedling with PRP

PRP adds even more scar-healing power by using growth factors from your own blood. Plasma contains platelets loaded with growth factors, which trigger your own stem cells to heal and regenerate skin scarred by acne. PRP releases natural tissue-regenerating factors that support collagen production and dermal matrix reconstruction. You can expect scars to soften and to see an overall improvement in the texture of your skin.
