Prescription for Your Skin Type: Normal Skin Type

December 29, 2017

People with normal skin type are neither oily nor dry and do not have any significant sensitivities. They also enjoy freedom from such imperfections as highly visible pores. This makes caring for normal skin type less complicated. However, no one is immune to the effects of aging so those with normal skin type still need to take the time to protect and nourish their skin.

To help our patients take charge of their own skin care, we’re sharing protocols that we use on ourselves. There’s a lot of info out there so it’s good to get specifics so you can choose an effective routine that's right for you.

A.M. Routine: First Thing in the Morning

1.

Start your day by washing your face with the gentle yet strong Glycolic Cream Wash. The 5% unbuffered glycolic acid it contains moisturizes while acting as a mild exfoliant. It’s important to apply a small amount, gently massage the cleanser into wet skin, and rinse it off thoroughly.

2.

Then apply Obagi Professional-C Serum 15%,which is loaded with antioxidants to fight the effects of aging. It absorbs quickly allowing easy application of moisturizers and makeup. Don’t forget to apply it to your neck!

3.

For the eye area, gently dab on SkinMedica TNS Eye Repair. Application technique is important because rubbing the skin around the eyes can stretch and damage it. Formulated with NouriCel-MD, peptides, high concentrations of vitamins A, C, & E, and hyaluronic acid, this product gives delicate skin a dramatic boost.

4.

Gets sun protection in a light makeup base with Revisions Intellishade Matte Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 45. Formulated with advanced peptide and broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection, it reduces the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles and fights photo damage. A perfect two-in-one for women on the go!

P.M. Routine: Right Before Bed

1.

Never go to bed with a dirty face! To remove the day’s dirt, sweat, oil, and makeup, use DCL Balancing Cleanser. After wetting your face, carefully massage this gentle scrub cleanser around with your fingertips and make sure to rinse it off thoroughly. Both this product (and the glycolic cream wash for use in the a.m.) can be used twice a day. Try mixing it up by using the light scrub at night.

2.

With your face as a clean slate, dab on SkinMedica Retinol Complex, which increases cell and collagen production. While you’re sleeping, this amazing antioxidant complex enhances the texture and vibrancy of the skin.

3.

Used in the morning, apply SkinMedica TNS Eye Repair again at night. Since the eyes are THE point of contact with the world, repairing and protecting the delicate skin that surrounds them is a top priority. Allowing this product to work overnight does wonders!

4.

Like the SkinMedica TNS Eye Repair, SkinMedica TNS Ceramide Treatment cream also contains NouriCel-MD, but is designed for the rest of the face not just the eye area. It provides rapid restoration of moisture keeping normal skin types looking young and healthy.
