BOTOX® COSMETIC INJECTIONS

What is Botox?

Botox has become synonymous with anti-aging because its elegant simplicity has created remarkable results for millions of men and women worldwide!

An FDA-approved prescription injectable, Botox Cosmetic is best known for temporarily improving the appearance of moderate to severe crow’s feet at the sides of the eyes, frown lines between the eyebrows, and horizontal creases across the forehead. Botox treatment can also be used to help with the vertical lines around the mouth, the downturn of the mouth, and both the vertical bands and horizontal necklace-like lines on the neck.

How Botox works: this is important!

Botox contains small amounts of highly purified botulinum toxin, a bacterium found in nature that blocks the nerve impulses involved in muscle contraction. When injected beneath the skin’s surface, the botulinum toxin temporarily reduces the muscle activity involved in frowning and squinting. Over time, these repetitious facial expressions create wrinkles, furrows, and folds that can give you a tired, angry, or annoyed look. Once Botox relaxes these muscles, you and the world get to enjoy your more serene, approachable facial expression. This can have far-reaching effects that can positively impact your personal relationships, work life, and more!

Can Botox be used preventatively?

Yes! Laughing, smiling, squinting, frowning, and concentrating are all a natural part of life. However, the earlier these repetitious, habitual muscle movements are inhibited, the better Botox is able to forestall signs of aging. Many people in their 20s and 30s are now incorporating Botox into their skin-care regimens so they can look younger longer.

We have the experience and thorough training to inject Botox properly. The part of the process that takes the longest is our careful assessment of your face. It’s also the most important because it is critical to study your unique facial structure in order to assess your true needs. This is what separates a highly-trained cosmetic dermatologist from someone who has only had a weekend course or has added Botox as a sideline. We inject Botox day in and day out and have done so for many years. Beware of spas and nonspecialists who are now injecting Botox. This treatment may not be an integral part of their daily practice resulting in less than optimal results for patients.

What about all those media spoofs?

How many skits, shows, and films have depicted a character whose face is frozen in an emotionless freeze-frame after a Botox treatment? Lots! While this may have entertainment value, this is fiction. When you’re treated by a licensed medical professional who has the experience and expertise to give you a great result, your ability to show expression should not be lost. Our pros have the injection training and skill in facial anatomy to create gorgeous results! This is essential because every face is different and those differences need to be taken into account when determining that all-important needle placement.

The actual Botox injections only take about 10 minutes with patients experiencing a minor pinching sensation. When you leave the office, you can go about your normal routine. We often have you keep your head upright and contract the injected muscle group for a few hours, but that's it!

After treatment, results are usually noticeable within a few days with your full correction present at 2 weeks. Results can last 3-6 months. Some patients are pleasantly surprised with more lasting effects because their muscles ‘forget’ habitual contraction patterns.

The big question: how will I look?

You’ll look like yourself only softer. People will sense that you look a little younger, a little different in a good way, but won’t be able to put a finger on it.

What does Botox cost?
The cost of Botox includes both the price of the product and the skills of the professional injector. Prices vary depending upon the number of areas treated and units required. For example, some sessions cost $500-$600, but an upper lip can cost $80. We participate in Brilliant Distinctions, Allergan's rewards program that gives you rewards points when you purchase Botox® and other Allergan products.

As with all aesthetic injectables, discounts and deals may cost you big in the long run especially if you subject yourself to knock-off products or untrained, unskilled injectors. We see it all too often when patients come to us to correct ‘botched Botox’—work done poorly by someone else. We urge you to invest in medical practitioners with the credentials and know-how to create natural looking, safe results. Botox injection is truly an art.

Botox is an extensively studied aesthetic treatment

The safety and efficacy of Botox has been evaluated by Allergan, the company that manufactures Botox, and more than 400 peer-reviewed scientific and medical journals. Your medical history is thoroughly reviewed before we move forward with Botox treatment. Botox is for adult men and women and is safe for all skin types.

Botox alternatives: Dysport and Xeomen

There are other makers of botulinum toxin, the active ingredient in Botox, just as there are brands of tissues other than Kleenex. There are subtle differences between these agents, but they generally work similarly to Botox. We use them all!

What’s the difference between Botox and fillers?

Fillers add volume and fill in lines whereas Botox affects muscle activity. For instance, a filler softens a wrinkle by stuffing it up. Botox stops the muscle from contracting, which is what creates the line in the first place.

We are world-class Botox injectors. Patients travel from all over to see us!
