COVID-19 SAFETY POLICIES
In light of the recent surge of COVID-19 cases across the United States, we continue to maintain in-office protocols for patient safety. Please review them here. We have also implemented a new policy regarding patient appointments for those who recently traveled to COVID-19 hot spots.
There are 38 states, as of October 13, 2020, that meet the criteria and are included in Connecticut’s travel advisory.
If you already have an appointment scheduled but visited any of these states/territories in the last two weeks, you must reschedule your appointment by calling (203) 323-5660.
If you visited one of these hot spots within the last two weeks and need to set an appointment, you must disclose this information at the time of scheduling your visit to our office.
A WORD ABOUT HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE
We’d like to take a moment to help you make the most of your health insurance benefits because we want you to avoid unexpected or unnecessary charges. It is NOT our policy to deceive patients so that we can charge more. Insurance is there to protect your health and we honor that.
We highly recommend taking the time to familiarize yourself fully with all of the facets of your plan BEFORE making an appointment. This is especially important if you’ve recently changed things like your job, marital status, or health insurance carrier.
We urge you to find written materials online or to study your EOB (Explanation of Benefits). If you need help understanding terms or rules, please visit with your human resources department or benefits administrator. You can also call your insurance company directly to go over all of your questions and concerns.
We always try to assist our patients in this area, but ultimately we cannot know all of the parameters of every plan for each individual who comes to see us. It’s important for patients to find out if they have yearly deductibles, copays for either office visits or prescriptions, and other caps, limits, or flexibilities when it comes to billing costs. It’s also critical to check things like in-network and out-of-network provider status.
We gently remind those new to navigating insurance that just because you have a health benefit plan doesn’t necessarily mean you never have to pay for anything. This can be a startling transition when young adults leave college and strike out on their own.
Another thing to keep in mind: elective, aesthetic, and cosmetic procedures may be an out-of-pocket expense.
