Lip Injections - All About The Pout
The key to lip enhancement is to accentuate what you’ve got by carefully considering the lip style and mouth shape you were born with as well as your facial features as a whole. Whether you have naturally thin lips or volume loss in the lips as a result of aging, begin with realistic expectations.
Not everyone can look like Angelina Jolie nor should they want to! Such exceptionally plump lips just aren’t a match for every face.
“Trout pout" & “duck lips’ are for the birds (& other aquatic creatures!)
Seeking out a trained injector will save you from the overdone look. Experts know exactly which parts of the lips to inject to create an intended effect. It’s definitely an art.
At Southern CT Dermatology, Dr. Evans and Ellie Christianson, our nurse practitioner, have extensive experience in this area. This allows them to create natural-looking enhancements to the lips. People will notice that something is different without knowing that you’ve had anything done.

An initial consultation with one of our pros is essential to accurately assess the right type of lip filler for you. We also review your medical history to determine if you’re a good candidate. Never let anyone inject anything into your lips or face unless they are an experienced and reputable medical professional with a high degree of expertise.
For lip enhancement, we typically use Juvéderm and Restylane, injectables that contain smooth gel hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar found in the human body and is responsible for delivering nutrients, hydrating skin, and acting as a cushioning agent. Results are seen right away and typically last 6-9 months.

Is your lipstick bleeding into the fine, vertical lines around your lips?
For many older women, lipstick can act as an unflattering spotlight drawing even more attention to the effects of time. To solve this specific issue, we use Belotero, another hyaluronic-acid filler, that can be injected much more superficially to best elevate those fine depressions around the mouth.
Now that my lips look better, what about the rest of my face?
Coupled with lip enhancement, dermal fillers can subtly shift your facial contours giving you a more youthful, feminine look. Dermal fillers such as Juvéderm, Restylane, Radiesse, and Voluma are used to add volume to facial areas with wrinkles or folds such as the lines extending from your nose to the corners of your mouth—called the nasolabial folds. They also give a boost to cheeks making the face look more robust. Just one treatment can produce instant results that last up to one year.
We also use Sculptra, an injectable poly-L-lactic acid. This filler works more slowly and subtly replacing collagen lost in the aging process, restoring volume, and reducing fine lines. Improvements materialize over time for very natural looking results that last.
As with all treatments, it’s critical to work with a board-certified pro who can factor in all personal variables.
