3 Ways to Overcome the 'Holiday Hangover' for Your Skin

By Cristal Tope, FNP-BC

Has the season of holiday celebrations got you feeling morning-after heavy?

Hangovers are caused by dehydration, vitamin and nutrient depletion from excessive alcohol consumption, and fatigue from lack of sleep.

Symptoms include:

  • Nausea

  • Headache

  • Upset stomach

  • Muscle aches

  • Dehydration

If you wake up with hangover-like symptoms, try these simple tips for temporary relief instead of just waiting it out.

Eat Healthily

Just as you need to avoid that half bottle of wine from the night before, you should ignore the temptation to eat greasy or heavy foods the morning after. Alcohol also has a diuretic effect that depletes potassium, so reach for fruits rich in vitamin C, such as kiwi or mandarin, to help the body heal.

Avoid Added Sugar

Cocktails and desserts may seem almost ritualistic during the holidays, but try to avoid processed foods and sugar-laden drinks afterward.

Processed sugar causes inflammation in the body, perpetuating the hangover feeling.

Rehydrate and Re-Energize

Excess alcohol consumption increases stomach acid and delays stomach emptying, leading to electrolyte imbalance and dehydration. Replacing the body’s hydration and electrolytes helps cellular functions to restore wellness. Fortunately, you can quickly revive and restore at our SoCo Vitamin Bar!

Our Quench IV drip will quickly rehydrate you and provide the body with much-needed B vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals for energy to combat fatigue.
