Planning a wedding is stressful. Before the big day hits, there are countless decisions to make: choosing the location, picking the right menu, finding the perfect dress and so on. Top of the list is making sure your complexion is flawless for your special day.

You can get traditional facials which include a cleanse, exfoliation, extraction, and massage that do wonders to clear and brighten skin but you want to kick it up a notch. So, how can you truly transform the look and feel of your face before your wedding? Book yourself a microneedling facial with PRP or dermaplaning. Two of the hottest facials on the beauty scene.

What is Microneedling Facial with PRP?

Remember the time Kim Kardashian West nearly broke the internet (once again) with her blood-drenched selfie? Microneedling with PRP (short for platelet-rich plasma) is the facial she made famous with a snap. The name alone sounds more gruesome than it actually is. Allow us to explain.

Microneedling and PRP are a powerful duo that combat the evils of aging and restore skin to a more youthful state. Want your skin to be baby-soft and radiant? This is one of the facials you’ll want to have weeks before your big day. Do yourself a favor though. Have a licensed and certified aesthetician at a dermatologist office perform the procedure, which starts with a topical anesthetic gel being applied to your face. A vial of blood is drawn from your arm then spun in a centrifuge, where your platelets are separated from your red and white blood cells. The platelets hold high-levels of growth factors, which, when applied to your skin, trigger cell turnover.

PRP is then administered on your face with a microneedling pen device that creates controlled micro-injuries. This results in the production of new collagen and elastin. The micro-injuries stimulate your skin to repair itself from within and allow deeper penetration of the platelet-rich plasma. The entire session takes about an hour of your time. Another bonus: there is minimal downtime. Of course, there is some minor pin-prick bleeding and possibly redness lasting 1-2 days.

* Actual patient results after four treatments.

Is Microneedling Safe?

You’re probably wondering if microneedling is safe for your skin. Thankfully, there is little risk of side effects because your own body triggers the natural mechanisms it already performs. Microneedling is safe and effective for adults and teens of all skin types. If the thought of micro-needles pricking your skin makes you a bit squeamish, give dermaplaning a shot.

What is Dermaplaning?

The process may sound scary but it is totally safe and can be done every 3-4 weeks. Of course, this needs to be done by a professional. Don’t risk your skin particularly when you have your big day ahead. The very last thing you need is a skin crisis before your wedding day. Imagine the pictures.

How is Dermaplaning Done?

A dermatologist or aesthetician cleanses and exfoliates your skin with a scrub then uses a delicate, sterile, surgical-grade blade to manually scrape the surface of your skin. While holding your skin taught, the dermablading tool is swiped in a gentle upward motion. Next, your skin is hydrated with product and topped off with a 5-8-minute mask. Voila! You’re done in 30-minutes.

Tips to Remember After Dermaplaning

We recommend getting a peel, facial, or applying vitamin C serum immediately after a dermaplaning session to enhance the effectiveness of those treatments. It will take your skin three to four weeks to run through its rejuvenation cycle, so it’s best to wait that long before your next treatment.

Also, keep in mind that not everyone is licensed or certified to do these specialized facials but we are! Our aesthetician Sandra is a registered nurse and physician assistant. On top of that, all of our aesthetic procedures are medically safe, which means we sterilize our instruments and have strict protocols in place to ensure cleanliness. You have enough things to worry about before your wedding. Your skin should not be one of them.

The idea of micro-injuries triggering repair is fascinating, and I love how the happy glass image – like turning every sad glass into a smile – mirrors the skin's renewal. Just scrolling during my coffee break, I'm surprised these treatments have such minimal downtime!
